Steps to Become a Notary in Washington State

Step 1- Order a notary bond

All Washington State notary applicants are required to provide proof of a four-year, $10,000 notary bond. The cost of the notary bond is only $40. Step 2- Sign the Statement and Oath of Office

Sign the Statement and Oath of Office that is attached to the notary bond you receive from us before another notary.  The notary will put you under oath and notarize the document. The oath is a pledge that you will uphold the Constitution of the United States and Washington State and perform your duties to the best of your ability.

Step 3- Complete a notary application

You have two options to complete the notary application. You can complete the notary application and upload the notary bond and oath of office on State's website. Or, if you prefer, you can download the notary application and mail it along with the notary bond and oath of office to the State. There is a $40.00 application fee.

Step 4- Order notary supplies

Once approved as a Washington State notary, you need to order a Washington notary stamp and a record book (journal) to authenticate and record your notarial acts. Click here to order a Washington notary stamp and notary record book (journal).

Step 5- Email us a copy of your notary commission certificate.
